Meet Dr. Whaley

Andrew L. Whaley, MD specializes in Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), sports medicine and adult joint reconstruction. Dr. Whaley's specialty training in arthroscopy includes the shoulder, elbow, knee and ankle joins as well as in ligament reconstruction of the shoulder, elbow and the knee. While at the Mayo Clinic, he trained in adult reconstruction arthroplasty of the elbow, hip and knee. Dr. Whaley is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who earned is Subspecialty Certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) in January of 2010. Although Dr. Whaley was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, he has many family ties to San Antonio. Dr. Whaley is the grandson of John J. Hinchey, MD, a renowned pioneer in Orthopaedic Surgery and one of the first orthopaedic surgeons in South Texas. Dr. Whaley carries on his grandfather's legacy to provide premier orthopaedic care and service to San Antonio and South Texas communities.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A&M University, Dr. Whaley went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio. He followed this with his internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Following this training, he spent another year focusing solely on sports medicine at the Hughston Clinic in Columbus, Georgia. Since completing his training in 2003, Dr. Whaley has been in practice in San Antonio. He has written numerous articles and appeared on television promoting awareness for orthopaedic medical problems. He is also a recipient of the Chiranjan Ranawat Award from the Knee Society.

Dr. Whaley and his wife, Susan, are proud parents of three children.
